Protestors organize

December 6, 2011

Members of Inyo County’s Occupy movement are getting more organized and working on establishing leadership roles.
At the next demonstration, scheduled for this Sunday in the Bishop City Park, Occupy 395 demonstrators will have an opportunity to have their opinion heard at a general assembly meeting.
At the general assembly, all participants will be able to vote on seven steering committee members, who will serve as organizers for the next two weeks.
A new election will be held every two weeks until a more permanent standing committee is elected at a later date.

City and county to combine elections?

December 6, 2011

The City of Bishop is looking into the possibility of consolidating its General Municipal Elections held in March of odd years with Inyo County General Elections held in November of even years.
Bishop primarily only holds elections for City Council, meaning a consolidation would cause a four-month reduction to some council member terms. And, according to some opposing arguments to the consolidation, it may mean focus on local council members and measures may get lost in the hyperbole of a presidential election, when local candidates accompany national candidates on a ballot.
