Local dance instructor Dennis Wayne is planning a revolutionized rendition of one of the holiday seasonâs most famous and well-known ballets, which he hopes will become a hometown tradition for years to come.
Wayne will be presenting the classic âNutcrackerâ story with a modern twist Dec. 16-18 at the Bishop High School Auditorium.

A local environmental watchdog group and a local community advocacy group are working together toward cleaner air and warmer homes in the Owens Valley.
Great Basin Unified Air Pollution Control District has nearly $5 million to put toward air pollution reduction. And, the Inyo Mono Advocates for Community Action has been awarded $500,000 by Great Basin to replace residentsâ inefficient fire places and old wood stoves. IMACA will start in the southern part of Inyo County and work its way north.
Eastern Sierra Transit Authority is seeking charitable people who care about the communities in the Eastern Sierra to help âStuff-A-Busâ with non-perishable food items to support the Salvation Army food pantry.
Food collected during the Stuff-A-Bus campaign will be distributed to families in need this holiday season.
ESTA currently has donation boxes on each bus in the Bishop, Lone Pine and Mammoth areas to collect non-perishable food items from riders and has teamed up with KIBS/KBOV for a live remote broadcast from the Kmart parking lot today from 1-3 p.m.

1926-2011
Jack Dean Waggoner of Tehachapi passed away Nov. 12, 2011 at his home in Golden Hills, with his family by his side.
Jack was born in Fort Dodge, Iowa on May 25, 1926, to John Bryan (Barney) and Mable Waggoner, who preceded him in death along with one sister, Voncil.

Born in Scottsbluff, Neb. on May 4, 1923, Mary Jane passed peacefully in her sleep on Nov. 22, 2011.
