State court officials are considering stopping at least two court construction projects and delaying several more to fill a budget gap.
According to the Administrative Office of the Court, a working group tasked by Chief Justice Tani Cantil-Sakauye to oversee the judicial branchâs facilities program is recommending several ways to proceed with âminimal delay on most projects in the court construction program as well as the elimination of two projects in Alpine and Sierra counties.â
Today is the day when tens of thousands of wanna-be zombies and ghouls around the world will growl and boogie in unison for the âThrill the World.â It is an international attempt to set the world-record for simultaneous dance to Michael Jacksonâs âThrillerâ song and video and Bishopâs undead will be joining in this year.
Erin Livingston organized the local dance and has been holding lessons all month long.
Donald Frederick Raine
1931-2011
Donald Frederick Raine passed away Oct. 16, 2011 at Scripps Hospital in La Jolla, Calif. He was born in Malvern, Iowa Dec. 28, 1931 to parents Rheba and Charles Raine.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Janice; his daughter and son-in-law, Ellen and Matt Burkhart and their three children, Gordon, Douglas, and Margaret; and granddaughter, Kristen Packard daughter of deceased son Brian. He is also survived by his brother, Gene Raine, and sister, Patricia Clark.
Pauline Elizabeth (Huarte) Pedro
1929-2011
Pauline was born in Round Valley, Calif. on Sept. 9, 1929 and passed away on Oct. 23, 2011. She was 82 years old. She was a lifelong resident of Bishop.
Robert E. Clark
1928-2011
Robert E. Clark, 83, born April 24, 1928 in Seminole, Okla., passed away Sept. 13, 2011 in Lake Forest, Calif.
Robert’s family moved from Oklahoma to Lone Pine in 1935. Robert attended Lone Pine schools and worked at the Lone Pine Malt Shop, Lone Pine Drug Store, Lone Pine Café, Genevieve’s Gift Shop, and JC Penney’s. He also worked as a pin setter at the bowling alley, and a bell hop at the Dow Hotel.
Braedon Charles Hyland
1993-2011
Born July, 15, 1993, Braedon died Thursday, Oct. 13 due to complications after a car accident.
Bill Charles Sweat
1930-2011
Bill Sweat, 81, passed away Oct. 6, 2011 with his wife of 46 years, Margo, at his side in Medford, Ore. Bill was born to Laura Mae and Jasper Newton Sweat on Jan. 9, 1930 in Hartshorn, Okla. Bill moved with his family to Shafter in 1939. After three years the family moved to Lone Pine. At an early age Bill started repairing cars. In 1949 he married Caroline Hancock. From that marriage came three children, Susan, Bill and Shari.
