Changes coming to Tri-County Fairgrounds

California legislators and the governor decided in June to cut all funding to county and state fairs. This includes approximately $200,000 in lost revenue for the Tri-County Fairgrounds that operates on an annual budget of $900,000.

Skate park in the works for Lone Pine

Residents in Lone Pine are working on a new recreational opportunity in their community.
Lynn Bunn, community volunteer and local mover-and-shaker is spearheading an effort to raise funds for the construction of a skate park near the high school in Lone Pine.
Bunn said she has been meeting with community members and local skaters since March, and the group has come up with a solid plan and design and even raised about $2,000 for the project.

Dust storm, crashes close U.S. 395

High winds and blowing dust are responsible for three different collisions on U.S. 395 Friday that prompted the closure of the highway for a short time.
According to California Highway Patrol Public Information Officer Dennis Cleland, high winds blew a dust storm over U.S. 395 between Independence and Big Pine, creating unsafe driving conditions that led to the collisions.
The first collision occurred at about 1:30 p.m. when Michael Quinn, 68, was traveling northbound in a 1990 Dodge Ram.

Supes must OK any county road included in Adventure Trails system

With the Adventure Trails dual-use route system process moving along, county leaders met with Public Works staff to decide how it will handle its responsibilities in approving county roads in the system.
The Adventure Trails system aims to allow green-sticker off-highway vehicle users to travel up to 10 miles on county roads to access in-town amenities, such as food and fuel, and off-road destinations. To complete the system, the Board of Supervisors will be required to review and approve each selected route that will be on a county road.
