Adventure Trails focus shifts to public outreach

Local residents and community leaders will be meeting next month in Independence to kickstart the next leg of the new all-terrain vehicle route system.
Advocates for Access to Public Lands President and Project Leader Dick Noles told the Board of Supervisors Tuesday that there is still a lot of work to be done before the Adventure Trails System is implemented, but, after the Nov. 9 meeting, the public should be involved for the remainder of the planning stages.

Postal Service opts to close Darwin office

With the post office scheduled to close in Darwin, local leaders met Tuesday to discuss how residents in that part of the county will be receiving their mail.
Interim Public Works Director Doug Wilson said the U.S. Postal Service, after deciding to close the post office without so much as notifying the county, decided recently to place a set of cluster mail boxes on a county right-of-way – again, without any conversation with Inyo officials.

City budget projections may be too ‘optimistic’

What have previously been considered routine budget adjustments and commission recommendations came under careful consideration and close scrutiny Monday as the Bishop City Council works to make every penny count with fewer of them rolling in.
There is an approximate $723,774 deficit between projected expenditures, $9,604,253, and revenues, $8,880,479, for fiscal year 2012-13 and Councilmember David Stottlemyre said he’s afraid the deficit gap could widen as he perceives the revenue forecasts to be too optimistic.

Roane was born Feb. 2, 1954 in Richmond, Va. to Frank Weisenberg and Jean K. “O’Cano.” He is survived by his loving wife of more than 11 years, April “Whitlock” Weisenberg.
Roane was a gentle soul, always with a smile on his face, he knew no strangers.  Roane’s mission in life was to teach the world about Love, Friendship, Kindness, Gentleness and Truthfulness.

1945-2011

Diann Stever, aged 66, a resident of Bishop for 33 years, born in Detroit, Mich. on May 5, 1945, went to be with the Lord on Oct. 20, 2011.
Diann was raised in Tarzana and lived various places in Southern California prior to moving to Bishop in 1978. She worked at Safeway, later Vons, in Bishop and Mammoth Lakes and retired after 30 years of service.

1927-2011

Lorraine Julia (Hauck) Pischel died Oct. 20, 2011 at Southern Inyo Hospital. Lorraine was born Sept. 4, 1927 in Beulah, N.D. to Fred and Rose (Braun) Hauck. She is preceded in death by her sisters, Anna Goldade and Cleo Mettler; and is survived by sisters, Josephine Zeigler and Kathleen Breneman; and brother, Wilfred Hauck.
Lorraine grew up and attended school in the Beulah, N.D. area where she met and married Harold Walter Pischel on Oct. 25, 1949.

Pauline Elizabeth (Huarte) Pedro
1929-2011

Pauline was born in Round Valley, Calif. on Sept. 9, 1929 and passed away on Oct. 23, 2011. She was 82 years old. She was a lifelong resident of Bishop.
