Ilene Christiansen
1926-2010
At her request, no services will be held for longtime Fallon, Nev. resident Ilene Christiansen.
Born Aug. 2, 1926 in Delano to Paul and Verna Zimmerman, Ilene died Sunday, Sept. 19, 2010 after a lengthy illness. She was 84.
Ilene graduated from Porterville High School and continued her education at U.C. Berkeley.

It may be another six months before state officials decide where to build a new $30 million court facility in Inyo County.
Representatives from Inyo County Superior Court announced last week that the Administrative Offices of the Court, which has the final say on where the new facility will be located, will conduct its own âcomprehensive reviewâ of the options that are available for site selection for the new facility.
The AOC has asked Presiding Judge Brian Lamb to hold off on making his recommendation on where to build the new facility until it has completed its review.

In its final tune-up before Hi-Lo play begins, the Lone Pine football team fell, 35-14, to Rolling Hills Prep Saturday.
The Eagles made key defensive stops against the Huskies, who are ranked fourth in the CIF Southern Section for big schools, but struggled on the offensive end.
Rolling Hills got on the board in the final three minutes of the first quarter. A few plays later the Eagles recovered the ball around the Huskiesâ 40.

Bishopâs football team kept its perfect record alive Friday, beating Rim of the World, 31-21, for the first time in school history.
The Broncos jumped ahead quickly against the Fighting Scots, whom theyâve played six times before, but Bishop slipped in the second half by allowing Rim back into the game.
Bishop took a 10-0 lead after the first quarter and added 14 points to its lead before the first half was over.
The Fighting Scots started chipping away at the Broncosâ lead in the second half after capitalizing on a turnover by the special teams.

Residents of the Eastern Sierra continue to cope with haze and smoke as the Sheep Fire in Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Park continues to burn.
Fire lines have been cut to stop the fireâs progress, but officials â reluctant to say exactly when the fire will be out and the skies will clear up â are hopeful that the three-month-old, 7,800-acre blaze will be out soon.
The fire was ignited by a lightning strike in early July, and has burned 3,089 in Kings Canyon National Park and 4,798 in the Sequoia National Forest.

Ellice Henrie Whitney
1924-2010
Funeral services for Ellice Henrie Whitney will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the St. George LDS East Stake Center, 449 S. 300 East, St. George, Utah. Visitation will be held Friday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the Stake Center, prior to services. Burial will be at the St. George City Cemetery.
Born Sept. 13, 1924 in Panguitch, Utah to Hilda Vilate Prince and Jeddie Nephi Henrie, Ellice died peacefully at home in St. George on Saturday, Sept. 18, 2010. She was 86.
Carol Ann Walton
1938-2010
Visitation for friends and family of Carol Ann Walton will be held from 6-8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 24 at Brune Mortuary in Bishop.
Funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 25, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. Burial will be at East Line Street Cemetery. A luncheon will follow at noon at the VFW Post 8988, 484 Short St., Bishop.
Born in Los Angeles on Feb. 16, 1938, Carol died at home in Laguna Woods on Sept. 21, 2010. She was 72.
Ralph ‘Jimmy’ Shoshone
1945-2010
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 2 at the Beatty Cemetery for Ralph “Jimmy” Shoshone. A luncheon will follow at the Beatty Community Center.
Born April 30, 1945 to Josephine Patterson and Charles Shoshone, Jimmy died in Reno on Sept. 15, 2010. He was 65.

Police officers in Bishop have been busy this week, investigating an early-morning burglary at a Main Street business and a high- speed pursuit through the city that landed Bishop resident David Lawrence Baker behind bars.
The work week started off early for Bishop officers as a burglary alarm sounded at about 3:30 a.m. Monday morning at Supply Audio & Video on Main Street.
According to Bishop Police Detective Mark Gutierrez, the burglar or burglars broke into the shop through the rear glass doors, stealing approximately $3,000 worth of HP laptops, iPods and camcorders.

The fourth Friday in September is California Indian Day and the local Native American community is joining the celebration with a parade, Pabanamanina Gathering and Pow Wow and traditional handgames all weekend long.
The pow wow, now in its 30th year, draws dancers and artists from all over the country. The event is also a rare opportunity for the public to view and purchase Native American art from around the U.S.
All activities are offered free and open to the public.
