Viola Mae Emfinger
1920-2010
Viola Mae Emfinger, a resident of Bishop for 49 years, will be laid to rest alongside her husband, William C. Emfinger, during a private ceremony.
Born to John and Bertha Hinchee on July 11, 1920 in Vinton, Va., Viola Mae died Nov. 15, 2010 at Northern Inyo Hospital in Bishop. She was 90.
Viola Mae had two brothers, Elwood and Harry Hinchee, and four sisters, Irene Kelley, Eula Roberts and Marie Benson of Salem, Va., and Ethel Strong of Goodwater, Ala.

The Bishop Broncos and Lone Pine Eagles started off their pre-league basketball seasons Tuesday night with a bang.
In a four-game marathon that included boys and girls teams, both varsity and junior varsity, the Lone Pine boys won and the Bishop girls won.
Final scores: Boys varsity, â Lone Pine 78, Bishop 58; Girls varsity â Bishop 40, Lone Pine 35; Boys junior varsity â Lone Pine 51, Bishop 46; Girls junior varsity â Bishop 40, Lone Pine 15.

The Lone Pine Golden Eagles got on the board first with a 3-pointer, a quick indication of the Eaglesâ fast-paced game plan.
Robert ‘Bob’ Eugene Ocamb
1936-2010
No funeral services have been announced for Robert “Bob” Eugene Ocamb.
Born Sept. 26, 1936 in Kansas City, Kansas, Bob died Oct. 30, 2010 in Gardnerville, Nev. He was 74.
Bob spent his early years until his teens in Kansas City before relocating with his family to Phoenix, Ariz. where he attended Phoenix Union High School. After High School he entered the U.S. Navy in 1956 and served aboard the U.S.S. Philippine Sea, CVA 47.
Ruth Carolyn Morefield
1922-2010
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Independence Cemetery for 42-year Lone Pine resident Ruth Carolyn Morefield. The Rev. Erin Maddox McPhee will officiate. Friends and family will gather after the service at Pioneer Memorial Methodist Church.
Born in McCook, Neb. Oct. 28, 1922, Ruth died Nov. 23, 2010 at the Bishop Care Center. She was 88.
Ruth married Warren on Sept. 14, 1942 and they were married for 68 years.

A search for a missing hiker in the Eastern Sierra wilderness came to a grim end this week with the discovery of the Portland, Ore. residentâs body.
Inyo County Search and Rescue recovered the body of 37-year-old Christian Meining Wednesday afternoon near the Mt. Whitney Trail, nearly 24 hours after he was first reported missing.
According to Sheriffâs Department Public Information Officer Carma Roper, search crews were dispatched Monday morning when Meining failed to hike out of the Whitney Portal area Friday morning as scheduled.

Lone Pine residents will be honoring volunteer firefighters this holiday season with a Christmas parade dedicated to local men and women who volunteer to leap from bed, dash from the dinner table or leave their day jobs at the drop of a hat to help anyone in need.
The Lone Pine Christmas Parade is scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 11 and will feature firefighters from virtually every volunteer fire department in the county, dozens of entries from local citizens and Lone Pine Fire Chief LeRoy Kritz as grand marshal.

âA terrorist bomb has torn apart a water filtration facility in Southern Inyo, injuring approximately 15 Los Angeles Department of Water and Power employees. Volunteer firefighters and emergency medical personnel from Lone Pine and Olancha responded quickly, triaging and transporting every victim from the scene and to medical facilities in Lone Pine in less than 45 minutes.â
